#FactCheck: AI-Edited Video Falsely Attributes Remarks on China’s Control in Arunachal Pradesh to Army Officer Girish Kalia
Executive Summary
The Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Major General Girish Kalia, reportedly said in October 2026 that several areas of Arunachal Pradesh had remained in a face-off situation with Chinese troops since July 2026. Following this, a purported video of a military officer is going viral on social media, in which he can be heard saying that China’s control over the Asafila, Longju and Taksing circles in Arunachal Pradesh is a matter of concern. CyberPeace Research found that the video is AI-edited. In October 2023, then Major General Girish Kalia had addressed a press conference and spoken about infiltration attempts across the Line of Control (LoC), stating that 10 such attempts had been foiled and 27 terrorists had been killed. The audio of that video has now been altered and is being shared with a false claim.
