Technical Session on Deepfake and Misinformation using AI
This interactive session for undergraduate students explored the evolving landscape of deepfakes and AI-powered misinformation. It began with an introduction to deepfake technology, covering its definition, applications, and the working principles behind it using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). Students gained insights into image, video, and audio manipulation techniques, voice cloning, and the role of StyleGAN in generating hyper-realistic synthetic media.
Through hands-on demonstrations, participants explored various tools for creating and detecting deepfakes, including ArtGuru, DeepSwap AI, Eleven Labs, Deepware, and Microsoft’s Video Authenticator. The session also highlighted real-world case studies, including India’s first reported deepfake scam, and examined the ethical challenges, privacy concerns, and potential misuse of AI-generated content.
Additionally, students were introduced to AI-based detection techniques, fact-checking tools, and methodologies to combat misinformation. Key discussions focused on legal implications, intellectual property rights, election manipulation, defamation, and emerging policies aimed at regulating AI-generated content. The session emphasized the importance of digital literacy, critical thinking, and responsible technology usage to identify fake content and stay protected in the digital age.
