Introduction

The National Capacity Building Workshop on Cybersecurity is held as a joint effort by CyberPeace, Mastercard and the Department of Financial Services. The series-wise workshop focuses on creating awareness about safe digital practices, financial protection and improved cyber readiness among local communities in Khunti, Jharkhand. The initiative aims to strengthen digital trust and empower citizens through simple and practical knowledge related to cybersecurity. Bal Kalyan Sangh, Ranchi, supported the workshop.

Overview

The workshop was conducted to strengthen awareness on cybersecurity, cyber hygiene and financial safety within the local community. The initiative aimed to build a practical understanding of digital risks and promote safe online practices. The training was also delivered in the local regional language, Mundari, to ensure accessibility and help the community better understand the concepts.

Objectives

To introduce essential concepts of cyber hygiene.

  1. To build awareness about risks on social media and common online threats.
  2. To educate participants about financial fraud prevention and safe money practices.
  3. To encourage responsible behaviour in the digital space.
  4. To strengthen overall cyber resilience within the community.

Participation

The workshop saw the participation of villagers, community elders, Mukhiya, and other key government representatives from the local block, including the Block Head, Alice Udia, and the Deputy Block Head, Arun Kumar Sabu. Approximately 100 people attended the event. The gathering included youth, women, and elders from the tribal community who actively engaged throughout the sessions.

Address by Maj. Vineet Kumar, Founder & Global President, CyberPeace

Maj. Vineet spoke about the importance of basic cybersecurity behaviour, safe digital habits and the growing need to stay alert while using mobile phones, online services and financial platforms. He explained how simple actions like verifying links, avoiding unknown attachments and maintaining strong passwords can prevent many common incidents. He also encouraged participants to stay informed about emerging threats and to report suspicious activity promptly. His address helped the audience understand that cybersecurity is a daily practice and that awareness is the first step toward safety. He also spoke about the CyberPeace First Responder Programme and how it helps netizens respond to cyber incidents effectively. The programme equips individuals with practical guidance to handle threats and fosters a culture of vigilance and responsible online behaviour.

Session by Ms Shubhangi, Expert Trainer ~ CyberPeace

Ms Shubhangi from CyberPeace led an engaging session on social media safety and common cyber crimes. She explained risks related to fake profiles, unsafe sharing and message scams, and she provided examples of real situations that villagers may encounter. She guided participants on identifying misleading content, spotting impersonation attempts and protecting personal information on popular platforms. The session also covered safe communication practices, privacy settings and steps to follow when someone becomes a victim of an online scam. Her explanations were simple, practical and easy for the community to apply in everyday life.

Conclusion

The workshop concluded with thanks to the community. Participants gained essential knowledge on cyber safety and financial protection, which will support safer digital behaviour in daily life.
