The impulsive growth and utility of the Internet have put senior citizens at unease who continue to prefer traditional means. However, the dependency over the internet is such, that no individual can absolutely do away with it. This combined with lack of awareness makes senior citizens easy target. Through its various programs like e-Raksha, CyberSecurity Helpline, iSafe Alliance, etc. CyberPeace Foundation seeks to empower the senior citizens to harness the Internet to its full potential while sensitising them about how to stay safe in the cyber space.
However, the dependency over the internet is such that no individual can absolutely do away with it. This disposition coupled with lack of awareness makes them vulnerable leading to many cases of identity and financial frauds. On the fleep slide, we, however, feel that seniors speak authority and character in their families. We have observed that information and sensitisation about online safety, when it comes through the elders of the house is not just surprisingly pleasant but also creates an impact that is far more than someone preaching about it.
We work both these angles. We try to empower seniors on the safe use of technology and also how to take the message of online safety in their families. Recent developments have also led us to develop programs for them on the identification of misinformation and verification of news etc.
